Eight-Hands at Three Pianos in Concert
A unique musical event, Eight-Hands at Three Pianos in Concert, will be held at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Lexington, in the gymnasium at at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016. The one-hour program will feature the classics, Broadway tunes, beautiful hymn arrangements, and special visual enhancements.
Artists Alice Walker, Becky Ramsey, Sylvia Looney and Jim Ingram will perform. The featured pianists held an opening concert in May at First Presbyterian Church in Covington, Georgia. The 'multiple hands' provide an opportunity to play repertoire composed for orchestra, which is rarely heard on the piano. Perhaps the most exciting music of the afternoon will feature eight hands, four accomplished pianists, forty fingers, eight feet and eight eyes all playing one piano and performing an 1890 composition! Bailey Slice Parker, soprano and Director of Music at St Stephen's, will join the ensemble for a special musical performance.
Alice and Becky are natives of Atlanta and live in Covington, Georgia. Alice and Becky are organists at First Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church, respectively. These twin sisters hold bachelor degrees from Agnes Scott College and perform as a duo throughout the South. Each has earned two certifications from the American Guild of Organists. They have been pianists at Salem Campground in Covington, Georgia, since 1971. Salem Camp Meeting was founded in 1828 and is one of the oldest, existing, thriving camp meetings in the nation.
Sylvia and Jim are Lexington natives and retired Lutheran musicians who now perform as LI'L Entertainment. They each earned performance degrees from Newberry College. Sylvia is well known as a pianist, teacher, former organist at St. Stephen's for 45 years, and accompanist. Jim's career in the music business spans 46 years. He recently retired as organist of St. Stephen's (following Sylvia). This ended an approximate 75-year period of St. Stephen's organists who were graduates of Newberry College!
This summer event is FREE and provided by generous performers, contributors, and St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. Rice Music House is providing Steinway instruments for the concert.
