Memorial Dedication - Columbia Army Air Base

Twin granite markers bearing the names of 230 aviators who lost their lives in flight training incidents while at (former) Columbia Army Air Base (CAAB) during WWII will be dedicated and unveiled in a brief ceremony at 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at former CAAB base headquarters? flag plaza, Biloxi Square and Base Street, off Hardee Boulevard, primary vehicular route to Columbia Metropolitan Airport. A musical prelude by Brass Quintet, Fort Jackson Army Band, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Note: Because service will be so brief, limited seating will be set up. Lawn chairs strongly suggested. Following the unveiling, participants are encouraged to adjourn to airport terminal to welcome returning Honor Flight. Sponsored by Friends of Columbia Army Air Base.
