To celebrate its expanded operation and introduce its redesigned gift store, White House Florist is holding an open house and book signing Thursday, September 6. Dr. Phil Sawyer and Tom Poland will sign copies of their newly released book, Save the Last Dance for Me, which tells the story of the shag dance and its iconic presence at Ocean Drive, Myrtle Beach, and other South Carolina beaches. It also chronicles the Society of Stranders, the group of shaggers who meet twice a year in North Myrtle Beach to dance. Copies will be available for purchase and music on hand for shaggers to show off their steps.
Along with the book, Winston’s Gift Shop carries gifts for babies, children, graduates, and brides, along with housewarming and hostess gifts. Seasonal décor items will be offered as well. Named for the beloved family dog, Winston’s Gift Shop occupies the interior of White House Florist. The floral and Weddings by Jennifer businesses will be in the flower barn on the same property. The barn will feature a custom-built walk-in cooler in which customers can buy loose stems of flowers, much like a fresh flower market.
The open house is 6-8:30 p.m. at its location, 721 Old Cherokee Road. Call 356-8190 for information about the open house; for more on White House Florist, visit www.lexingtonwhitehouse.com.
